What types of Designations are available?

Why should I obtain a professional designation?

By obtaining a designation, you will distinguish yourself from thousands of other builders, remodelers or associates. A designation can help you gain recognition as an industry leader and call attention to yourself in a crowded marketplace.

Can I earn more than one designation?

Yes, you may earn as many designations as you would like. Once you have obtained your CGB and CGR you are eligible to start the Graduate Master Builder (GMB) or Graduate Master Remodeler (GMR) programs.

CERTIFIED AGING IN PLACE SPECIALIST (CAPS) The Certified Aging-in-Place Specialist (CAPS) designation program teaches the technical, business management, and customer service skills essential to competing in the fastest growing segment of the residential remodeling industry: home modifications for the aging-in-place.

CERTIFIED GREEN PROFESSIONAL (CGP) The Certified Green Professional™ designation recognizes builders, remodelers and other industry professionals who incorporate green building principles into homes— without driving up the cost of construction. Classwork leading to the designation provides a solid background in green building methods, as well as the tools to reach consumers, from the organization leading the charge to provide market-driven green building solutions to the home building industry.

CERTIFIED NEW HOME MARKETING PROFESSIONAL (CMP) Certified New Home Marketing Professional (CMP) is the mid-level designation for IRM students who have completed the marketing intensive IRM courses I through IV.

CERTIFIED NEW HOME SALES PROFESSIONAL (CSP) The Certified New Home Sales Professional (CSP) designation is the first designation available through The Institute of Residential Marketing. CSP was designed for specialists in new home sales to enhance their professional image, increase their marketability in the home building industry and sell more homes!

GRADUATE MASTER BUILDER (GMB) The ultimate symbol of the building professional, the Graduate Master Builder (GMB) designation is for experienced veterans only. Before beginning the GMB designation process, you must have the CGB designation, the CGR designation, or the CGA designation with five years of building experience, or ten years of building experience and have completed three CGB/CGR/CGA courses. GMB courses are more advanced with in-depth instruction geared for experienced building professionals.

GRADUATE MASTER REMODELER (GMR) The GMR allows CGRs to attain further recognition for educational excellence and longevity in the remodeling industry. This program is designed to be the master level of the current CGR designation. Qualifications include 15 years remodeling experience, completion of 5 required courses, and having an active CGR for 9 years or active CR (Certified Remodeler) from NARI (National Association Remodeling Industry) for 10 years.

HOUSING CREDIT CERTIFIED PROFESSIONAL (HCCP) The Housing Credit Certified Professional (HCCP) is a specialized designation for developers, property managers, asset managers, and others working in the affordable housing industry.

MASTER CERTIFIED GREEN PROFESSIONAL (Master CGP) Exclusively for experienced building industry professionals, the Master Certified Green Professional (Master CGP) designation comprises a more in-depth study of green building science and methods. The courses required for the designation cover topics like building science techniques, the high-performance home and marketing strategies for selling green. You’ll learn ways to decrease liabilities associated with green building and how to incorporate green building certification into your scheduling and project management. The Master CGP builds on the Certified Green Professional (CGP) designation and expands into the mechanics of green building. Requirements: Must be a building industry professional with five years of green building experience and have built, remodeled or been involved with the construction of at least three dwellings in a three-year period to a recognized local, state or national certified green residential program; completion of the four required courses.

MASTER CERTIFIED NEW HOME SALES PROFESSIONAL (Master CSP) The Master CSP designation further acknowledges new home sales professionals who hold the CSP designation by highlighting their continued educational and career achievements in the home building industry.

MASTER IN RESIDENTIAL MARKETING (MIRM) The Master in Residential Marketing (MIRM) designation is the fourth and most prestigious designation given by the Institute. The MIRM is the top-level achievement for professionals in new home marketing.
